Taking its name from a method of cooking by radiant heat, Southbank Grill in Townsville’s popular Palmer Street dining strip has won multiple awards since opening in 1997 and since then, enjoyed strong custom and a fine reputation honed by an ever-changing menu and committed levels of service.

Southbank Grill is Rydges in-house restaurant. Open to both the public and in-house guests.

Acclaimed Bret Hanson brings with him 35 years of experience creating scrumptious food for diners around Australia.

Bret has won both industry and people choice awards, some of which include; TQ Central Queensland Best Restaurant 2008, HMAA Awards Best Restaurant 2004, 2005 & 2006 and The Bulletin most popular restaurant Central Queensland 2005 and 2006!

Our Food & Beverage Manager

Allan Jillett has been working for Rydges Hotels and Resorts for 6 years and started his career at Rydges Capricorn as a trainee cadet.

The Rydges Cadet programs are management traineeships that offer diploma and degree graduates an opportunity to experience all sides of the business with the aim to offer a leadership role within the company.

Allan joined the team at Rydges Southbank Townsville and took over the role as Banquets Manager at the Southbank Convention Centre before moving over to work at Southbank Grill. He has a great passion for food and wine and is a great asset to the role of Food and Beverage Manager at the Southbank Grill. Allan believes that dinning out is not just about great food and wine but also service and the ambience of a venue.
